Quick Tip for ACT! 2013 and Outlook

If you are an ACT! 2013 user who uses Microsoft Outlook for your email, the following quick tip may be useful for you.  Occasionally a user may inadvertently delete a contact in Outlook and then try to add the contact back into Outlook by synchronizing ACT! and Outlook.  The contact will not be synced to Outlook, no matter how many times you try.

To add the contact back to Outlook, follow these steps.  Note that you must have administrator rights to perform this process.

1.     Close ACT! and Outlook.

2.     Stop the Sage.ACT.Integration.exe process:

a.     Right click on the Windows task bar and select Start Task Manager.

b.    Select the Processes tab.

c.     Locate Sage.ACT.Integration.exe (Act.Outlook.Sync.exe in ACT! 2011) and click on it to highlight.

d.    Select End Process.

3.     Open your computer network folder and browse to one of the following locations depending on your operating system:

a.     Windows XP, Windows Server 2003: C:Documents and Settings*username*Application DataACTAct DataOutlook Sync

b.    Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008: C:Users*username*AppDataRoamingACTAct DataOutlook Sync

4.     Delete or rename both files that end with Contacts. Metadata.

5.     Restart the Sage.ACT.Integration.exe service by navigating to C:Program Files (x86)ACTAct for Windows and double click on the Sage.ACT.Integration.exe file.

6.     Launch ACT! and test synchronization.  All of the contacts should now be synchronizing successfully.

It is important to note that this process will reset your synchronization set for ACT! and Outlook, possibly resulting in duplicate contacts in Outlook.
