Customer Insights – Marketing Segment User Roles

Dynamics 365 Customer Insights is a powerful marketing platform built directly into the Dynamics 365 ecosystem, enabling you to create and manage a variety of marketing assets, such as email campaigns, with ease.

Before launching an email campaign, the first question you must ask yourself is – who am I sending to? What topic interests them, or which part of the sales process are they in? While we’d like to think everyone wants to know everything that our business is doing, that’s just not the case. As marketers, we know we need to communicate with target audiences differently. This makes being able to segment your audience a key feature of an effective email marketing tool. Customer Insights is a great tool to do just that, as it can build marketing segments based on multiple tables.   

 

How to Create Marketing Segments

We know that information can live in many different areas in Dynamics 365 and having the capacity to bring all of that information into one segmentation is vital. Which is why whoever is in charge of building your segments needs to have the correct permissions.  

If you’re receiving this message "One or more tables used in this segment definition has no data. Remove the condition and try again." when connecting information from related tables into your segments, you may need to update your permissions. To ensure you have this capability, the user needs to have the Marketing Services User Extensible role.   

This role needs to be updated, so that it has organization-level read access to any table being used in the segment, including the tables links to any lookup fields being used. This makes sure all values within the lookup are available to anyone giving users the ability to incorporate related table information. 

Setting up any CRM takes time. There are lots of little functionalities that need to be put in place to effectively utilize the information.
