Employee Engagement and Planning Events

In every workplace, it is important to create an environment where everyone can collaborate and enjoy what they do. One way to improve teamwork and satisfaction at work is by planning events. These gatherings help engage employees but can also strengthen the connections within your community.

What TopLine Does

Here at TopLine we have an Employee Engagement Committee that plans our internal company events. Our main goal for this team is to continually engage both our employees and the community throughout the year.

The committee is comprised of team members from all departments, including Marketing, Sales, and Tech. This initiative aims to bring more variety to our team experiences and ensures all departments get a say in the events we plan.

We engage our employees through a variety of fun team-building activities. Some past events include team lunch, bowling, game day, and going to a baseball game. Our strategy involves hosting one small monthly event with a larger one every quarter.

We connect with our community through various types of volunteer activities, like volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, hosting a pancreatic cancer awareness walk, and much more. This is done to actively contribute to our local community.  It also serves as team building and collaboration for everyone participating.

Since the start of the engagement committee, we have created greater bonds and a better culture here at TopLine. Everyone raves about each event and cannot wait until the next one.

What You Can Do

If you are looking to create deeper bonds and collaboration among your team, implementing monthly events is a great place to start.

First, announce the idea to your team and find team members to take on the responsibility of planning the events. We recommend creating a diverse team of employees to plan your events. This allows for a variety of ideas and lessens the burden on any one individual.

Plus, since it's being planned by multiple team members in various departments, it is more likely everyone will want to participate and enjoy the experience.

Two effective ways to find out what the rest of the team enjoys is to ask them directly or send out surveys.

Here are some examples of questions you can ask:

  • What is your favorite food and drink?
  • Do you prefer indoor or outdoor activities?
  • Do you have any event ideas you would like to see?
  • What time slot/day works best (during lunch, after work, Fridays, etc.)

Use the information you get to plan out enjoyable team-building events. It's unlikely one single event will interest or accommodate everyone's feedback, but that's why you host multiple events throughout the year! This approach considers the different interests of all your employees.

Engaging employees helps build a positive community at any company, which leads to improved communication, collaboration, and employee well-being.
