TopLine Designer Fix: Tables and Tabs Not Showing Correctly

Recently, some issues have been reported where a user’s TopLine Designer tabs and tables do not appear when Act! is opened.  In order to rectify this issue, please follow the steps below.

If you do not see your information displaying correctly, our first recommendation would be to reset the Act! preferences on the affected computer.

Resetting Act Preferences

  1. Close Act!.
  2. Open Task Manager by pressing CTRL + ALT + Delete and click on Task Manager.
  3. Click on the Process tab (Windows 7 & 10) or the Details tab (Windows 8).
  4. Sort by name and find any process with names that start with 'Act!'.
  5. Select the process and press the End Task button.
  6. Using File Explorer or Windows Search, in the Navbar, type in %appdata%.
  7. Click on the Act! folder.
  8. Press the Delete key on your keyboard.  Confirm that you want to delete the folder if prompted.
  9. Reboot the computer and re-open Act!.

If resetting Act! preferences does not resolve the issue, our next recommendation is to check out the Microsoft .NET Framework machine.config file, as it may not be formatted properly.  Please follow the steps below:

Checking Microsoft .NET Framework machine.config File

  1. For Act v16, 17 & 18
Using File Explorer, navigate to this folder: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\config\
  2. For Act 2013 & older
Using File Explorer, navigate to this folder:
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG
  3. Locate the machine.config XML configuration file.
  4. Take a look at the file size and verify that it is more than 50KB. If not, this is likely the issue.
  5. To fix the issue, proceed to a workstation that has a working version of TopLine Designer on the same database.
  6. Copy the machine.config file from that workstation over to the affected workstation.
  7. Before adding that file to the folder listed above, add 'old' to the original machine.config file name.
  8. Copy the new machine.config file into that folder.
  9. Restart Act!.
